I am installing new limit and sender switches. However, I am not real clear if I should add or coat the two mated halves that are molded onto the wires before pulling the wires through the transom assembly. It seems to me that these should be coated with something in order to seal against water. Any suggestions?

I have put some silicone sealant on the inside as an extra measure, but . . . the 2 grommet halves molded into the wires do provide a good seal, as long as the transom hole is in good condition and the retaining tab is bolted on tight (but not overly so)

There is no call for any type of sealant in the merc manuals, I have changed hundreds of sender switches and never once used sealant and never once have had any water leaks. My concern with using sealant would be residue left from an install not being cleaned up when replacing and thus causing a leak, but its your boat/your job you can do what you like

Definitely use perfect seal/anti-seize/grease on the clamp bolt threads, less chance of breaking when removing in the future
