Are there any active Iboaters in the Lake George Florida area? Specifically Astor and The Glens? Can anyone give me some information concerning this area? I visited the Astor area and fell in love with the scenery and the year round baoting opportunities.

I'm not in the area, but have been there several times. First off, don't go swimming in the river (gators). Second, you have to go up to Silver Glen Springs. Beautiful spring near the north western side of Lake George. I want to say it's 30 miles for Astor though. Google / YouTube Silver Glen Springs. I believe there is a Resort right in Astor as well. There are Cabins east of Astor about one block too.

Silver Glen Springs is about 5 miles from southern mouth of Lake George, great swimming, picnicing, hanging out, but can get a bit loud and crowded on weekends....Salt Springs is about another 5 miles up the shore of Lake George, same side...good swimming, etc. Prettiest part of St. Johns River is from Astor south to Hontoons, Blue Springs(great swimming), Highbanks(burgers, gas, ice), Sanford(dock up and walk for lunch). Just watch those FWL boys in the Manatee Speed Zones!;)

We always try to cross Lake George in the mornings before the afternoon winds pick up and white-cap the lake, making it a bit rough for smaller boats. Nothing especially great or beautiful about Lake George except for Salt Springs and Salt Run and Silver Glen Springs. Prettiest boating is from Astor, South to Sanford area.

I went camping at the Salt springs camp ground! Absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend visiting the silver glen springs. At Salt Springs I actually got to swim with the manatees which is illegal so don't harass them! It's nice though because they swim right up next to you and just sit there. You can pet them :D They're so nice.

The water is a bit cold so I recommend a wet suit.

Salt Springs is great, but stay over on the side where the beach is....a gator killed a lady snorkeling over on the other side a few years back!...not good!
