Hi yall, I plan on going to Galveston next week ( 1st out there with a boat). And was wondering if anyone knew of any boat ramps with good access to them. I have an 18' Mark Twain 165 hp I/O. I have been told that this boat is good enough for this area, but would really like to stay away from any area that has large vessels. I just want to go out there and try my luck at doing some fishing with my 13 yr old son.

Actually I just booked a hotel room in Texas City which is directly above Galveston. It looks like it is pretty close to the Galveston Bay. I am going to call around and see if I can find something near by. Unless one of you kind hearted Galveston folks has any suggestions :(

Dan be careful water can shallow real quick in the bay. Take your time and you will be fine. Watch the big gulls!!! When they dive you might find specs under them.

If you are staying in Texas City, there used to be a very nice ramp at the end of the Texas City Dike. It has been a few years since I have been there but we used to use it all the time.

Ralphy-Thanks for the info. I looked into it and I will be staying just a couple of miles from there, so it will be ideal.

dan-Sorry for your troubles, when I lived in Kansas, it seemed like everytime I turned around my basement was flooding(not much fun).

Now catching fish will be another story!

This weekend trip was a complete success :) My family and I had a great time staying out in Texas City. The fishing by the sunken "ship" was trully amazing. Course we didn't really catch many keepers, but thats all right couse the action was almost non-stop. Which was great because I took my cousins kids out there. And the only other time they had been fishing was they had only cought a one fish between a group of people. But this time each cought at least ten fish within a few hours. I think they will be hooked for life. ;)
The Texas City Dyke was really ideal: pleanty of boat ramps, and bait stores.

If anyone wants to go out there, there is a good dock off of 62nd street. There is some traffic, but very little because it open out quickly. Although if you head back up to Galveston Bay, the traffic might get thick because it is the ship channel. Good fishing, but have to watch your depth.
