Boat and Trailer TITLE???

I recently purchased a 14 ft. flat bottom jon boat and trailer for $200.
However, there was/is no Title or paperwork to go with the boat....
How hard is it to get a New/Salvaged Title for the Boat and Trailer?? How expensive is it??

Thanks guys!!! I have only been a member of the Forum for a couple of days, and already gotten a lot of answers/suggestions on my current restoration.

every state is different, and even then, it can come down to what the clerk you speak to had for breakfast. Generally it's ridiculously expensive and complicated for small old boats.

Virginia, by the way, just went to "one stop shopping" so you can register the boat and trailer at DMV. A good move for us!

KY dose not require a trailer title so your hafe way there. And your have owned it 5 years ,right.

Unfortunately... I have not owned the boat for 5 years... I just bought it back in November.
However, if we paid cash for it, and there is no title to it, there is no way of proving that, correct?? LOL!!!

Are there any registration numbers on the side of the boat?
If the department of fish and wildlife resources punches the HIN into their computer and find it was titled/registered to someone else within the last 5 years, you are going to have egg on your face, and the police might get involved if there is any suspicion of theft.
