Bilge Pump Placement

I put in a new bilge pump on my boat. I am concerned that the pump isn't low enough in the boat. I mounted the pump in the same spot that the old pump was which is directly below the motor. The bilge is still full of water after the pump clears the motor area. The problem is that I don't see a way of mounting the pump in the area below. What is everyone's recommendations? Thanks.

My recommendation would be to find the source of the leak that's letting water into your bilge in the first place.

Lots of bilge pumps are positioned in such a way that they leave a small amount of water in the bottom of the bilge due to hull design or space constraints. If theres no way to get it to the absolute bottom of the bilge, its not really a big deal. Pictures would help clarify your particular situation, though.

Re: Bilge Pump Placement

spoilsofwar is right. Bilge pumps never pump out all of the water. Two reasons. Look at the bottom of the pump. Probably has a slotted plastic piece to keep it off the bottom and always allow water input. Second, the water is pumped up the hose and then out of the boat. When the pump stops, water in the hose runs back down into the bridge.

All my friends boats (kept on the water) have some water in the bilge all the time.

Sea ya...

I'll reply with a couple photos tomorrow. It is hard to explain the placement and I can't find anything online. I'm really having a hard time finding photos or videos of a pump install.
