Really just a continuation of my last question but, how to I remove the lower unit to get to the water pump. I removed the 5 bolts on the lower unit & the 4 bolts on the case, but I'm at a loss as far as removing the shift rod. It's obviously more than 1 piece, but I'm clueless. I've got my book here & I'm still lost. Any advice on removing the the lower unit is certainly appreciated. So how do I remove this shift rod? At this point I 'm ready to put my FN on rock n roll and make my kids row. Thank you for your time in this matter.

See my other post - you probably have to unscrew the connecting cap at the top of the shift linkage rod, the one that is attached to the shifter handle, after removing the clevis pin.

Re: bf75L shift rod removal

Thank you for your reply, spent a great deal of time up at Wallenpaupack as a child, funny I was just looking at pictures last night of my family fishing up there in the 60s. Anyway it's an 84 bf75L, steady flow of water with power, nothing at idle. Removed5 bolts lower unit, 4 in the mid case. Took off the rubber baby bumper thing that does God knows what (protects the shift rod?) Reading my manual was about useless, I believe it says to disconnect the 2 parts-thanks. I came to the same conclusion, so I removed the hex bolt on top of the shift shaft, it has the bushings , the handle the click stop shifter(didn't know I had my own BS lingo)I think I know the pin that you're referring to, so I should basically look for a nut I'm guessing. Thank you kindly for your time-I'm off to my shed, I'll keep you posted-thanmks

Re: bf75L shift rod removal

I just wanted to say thank you. I now have a happy motor. Water is flowing freely at any & all rpm. Now I have to see how well the lower unit turns out. There appears to be an eighth of an inch gap between the prop & the housing that I don't recall seeing. It looks as if fishing line etc. would rap around the shaft easily. Should I be able to push the prop shaft in? I can butt the back of the prop to the lower unit by pushing in, don't recall that either. Well I'll see what happens, thanks again for your help
