I am changing the shift shaft bushings in an Alpha 1 Gen 2 outdrive.

Service Manual 14, page 4B-6 calls for Loctite on the upper bushing OD. Page 4B-36, Step 3 calls for Lubricant 101 on the upper bushing OD.

I'm assuming I should use a lubricant, not Loctite. Can someone confirm?

Thanks!

I used loctite on the OD of both the upper and lower bushings. But I have worked with other techs who preferred perfect seal and one who liked 101.
Worked in MN, so I don't have any knowledge of saltwater.
I preferred Loctite so I didn't have to worry how tight the fit was, won't come loose.
The perfect seal guys felt it sealed out water/corrosion better.
The 101 guy was all about speed. And boy did he have that. 3.5-4 hours to do 2 bellows, exhaust tube, trim sender/limit, shift cable kit, updated bushing kit, gimbal bearing, water intake hose, ujoints, yoke and seal, gear lube hose, alignment and gear lube change. He did it all without removing the hinge pins.

I don't think it's critical what you use as long as the bushings are tight in the bell housing.

Thanks muc.

I stopped by my boat store. His paper shop manual did not mention Loctite, only a grease / lubricant. I was looking at an online manual.
