Hi,

I'm new to both boating and this site, but really enthusiastic about what I'm finding on this site. What a great resource and community!

I recently was gifted by my father his 84 bayliner capri (17' I believe). The boat runs great, and I suspect their is some floor rot and unfortunately maybe some transom rot, but I'll save that for another day.

What I need to figure out, is there is a piece of wood with the upohlstry behind that covers the 6" or so section between the engine cover and the stern of the boat. That is missing from the boat, and so I am trying to understand what that piece is called, and how I can go about acquiring a new one?

Thanks,
Rybob1

Pictures would be great. I am not sure I understand which piece is missing. IMHO, if you suspect a transom rot, a missing decorative piece is the least to worry about for now. Just my .02

Thanks DeepBlue.

Attached is a picture i found on the internet of exactly what I'm missing.

As for the transom, yes it is very much a concern for me, in fact, I highly doubt I"ll invest too much into the boat until I get a better grasp on what problems it may have. In reading on the form, and from what I have gathered - I definately have a rot problem with the floor, especially around the ski compartment, and I'm willing to bet there is other spots. The bright side, its an I/O with the Volvo Penta, which is running strong. I have half a mind to find a nice solid hull with a bad engine, and swap engines.

Deepblue, as for your project, congrats on the progress you're making!

Thanks Rybob! It is PITA especially if you learning on the job but it is worth it and thankfully, the good folks here are always willing to help. The vision of the splashing moment keeps me going. Your attachment gives me an ?Invalid Attachment? error. Find any post from WoodOnGlass, in his signature, he has a link to how to post a picture. Or just Go Advanced and click on insert picture button and go from there

Re: Bayliner engine seats

that is kind of an engine cover flap thingy with seat head rests.

it is hinged on the back of the hull.

chances of finding one are good depending on how hard you look.

but i would just build one out of plywood....that's what it is any how...the b liners were all pretty much standard....can you find another in your area and get a template made?

the hinge is a piano hinge on the transom side of the motor.....the head rests are the back rests for the two aft jumper seats.

Re: Bayliner engine seats

Thanks oops!,

So it sounds like any bayliner boat would work, I don't have to look for a specific Capri model one? I would assume it should be off a similar sized boat (17')?

If I were to build myself, I'm most interested in getting the back of my seats again, where would one acquire the seat backs?

Thanks,
Rybob1

Re: Bayliner engine seats

This is what Bayliner parts catalog says about upholstery..
"Upholstery is no longer available. Call Canvas Plus (360-435-0932) for possible replacements."

The lady?s name is Kim, she is in Arlington, WA. She redone all of my upholstery and she still working on my captain seat.
She has the plans and dimensions so I doubt you will need to drive there. I did not realize you are in Bellevue before! Enjoy our ?HOT? summer in Seattle
