found my 850 starting battery totally dead. don't know why but it was dead solid in the boat.

I left it on the charger at the cottage while in town but wondering if it is now unuseable or trustworthy ? even if will show fully charged again

Funny, and your the wiring guy.

What brand and size and how old is it?

Batteries today are crap and I'm in a dispute right now with a local company who makes them. If you buy a battery take your meter to the store.

something happenned...my instrument (tach. pumps nav lights) main key was off.

I even installed a bright red marker on the console side in case I do forget the main instrument switch .

Batt was so dead it did not even turn on that side marker LED when I switched the main key on.

I am in town so can't answer batt. info. I wrote 850 but it is possibly 1000 amp batt. purchased 2 summers ago. In winter I keep it it on a trickle charger.

I may have left my engine key on and the power to EMM drained the battery. :-(

I will know more when I get back to the cottage (engine key wise) I just hope the EMM ($$$$$$) did not get messed up if the key was left on long enough to killl the battery.

The STUCK ......on Bilge pump that is connected to the battery directly. No switches can turn it off. Some can not be heard when running in air.

all my electricity gobblers are fed/split from my main instrument switch which also turns on my console side marker LED reminder.

my key was found in the OFF ... only the engine key On could have drained the battery and I will check this first chance I get . All I care e about now is EMM sanity.

live and learn ..... if the batt . is dead for good well i'll just get another one.

850 I assume is your cca's. I meant group 24....group 27....deep cycle I presume. I use group 31's purchased together every time with a battery switch.

Racerone is correct, charge it correctly and have it load tested.

Battery company just load tested my two month old battery's and said they had 710 cca's. My old load testing toaster oven say's they have 400 to 600 cca's.

I believe the toaster.

Either way, if they load test good I say use it. Not sure why your emm would go bad because I would think an under volt would just shut it down.

A classic case of " new motor " issues.-----A new battery is cheaper than damaging electrical stuff on new fangled motors.----But wait , is a new EMM even available for these things.----Easier to find / get parts for say an old 9.5 Evinrude

EMMs are available but costly... several shops can fix them if not a lost cause.
EMM killing is usually by using wing nusts on the battery but they do fail.

always run with kicker..currently a 4hp Merc. ..and paddles :)

Emm is the best thing to ever happen to any motor if you ask me....and especially a 2 stroke. Amazing motor, hope they bring them back. 2005? Must be one of the first.... Kudos to you for keeping it going.

In my world, a backup motor is a requirement along with an anchor.

the only problems I had were Code 38 no oil fixed under warranty with a new oil pump and Sw rev. the other was a failing T&T seal replaced several years ago and doing fine . It has been 19 years as my retirement gift to me.

done about 3 impellers, maybe 2 sets of plugs , GC oil changes. Ho yes... the oil thank cracked after a heavy run in 3 foot chop :) replaced under warranty ( early days defective tanks... known issue) . running with a 10u filter , engine cleaner etc...

keeping my finger crossed :)..got an anchor !

Your bilge pump on the key?
I’ve had it happen twice, on two different boats

How many months did you possible leave it on?
ECM current draw is measured in mA (0.0001 amps) per hour

IF I say IF the engine key was left on... maybe 3 weeks 4 weeks at most

bilge, bait and fish tank pumps and running lights all have a separate key under control of the main instrument key also wired to my red idiot lamp. hard to forget !!
