I just had my boat converted to a two battery system with a switch for both, 1 and 2. I am a little confused on what type of batteries to put in. Do I use a starting and a deep cycle or 2 deep cycles. (the boat is efi with digital ignition - not alot of start time) In addition - anyone have any experience with Optima Batteries?
What are good name brands? Most of the drain on the second battery will be stereo and lights at night - not heavy usage. Any advice would help!

Re: Battery Help

Use a good quality Series 24 for your main battery and a Series 27 for the backup battery, lights, stereo, etc. Brands dont really matter that much as long as you take care of them, keeping them in good charge condition at all times. A Series 24 with approx 800 CCA would be best for main battery.

Re: Battery Help

SlugBug
I would go with one regular starting battery for your main starting battery and a Starting / Deepcycle for the other. From your post I am not sure if you put in one switch with a 1/2/both/off settings or two switches. Also check your switch and make sure it has a Alternator field disconnect. If it does not do not turn switch with motor running or you can blow up your alternator or voltage regulator. How does your Alternator charge both batteries???
