Hello all:
I pulled the starter of my 115 johnson to check it over. The problem I am having is the starter only spins the motor about 2-3 times before it acts like a dead battery. Battery, ignition switch have been verified as good. Solenoid checked. Volts at starter when cranking are 11.11 when cable jumped from battery to starter standing alone and not on powerhead.
I am wondering if experienced eye can tell by looking at the pictures where my problem may lie.
When I opened it up, I found a ton of black dust in the bottom cup where the brushes sit. A loose screw on a (what appears) to be a ground wire to one of the brushes. The brushes are worn but don't appear to be excesively worn for a 1990 model. The wire binding (armeture?) is covered with a plastic like substance (is this normal?)
Any comments would be greatly appreciated!
I can add more in the morning if needed as my camera battery died while taking pictures.
