I have been looking for a 2nd prop. Anyone have thoughts on either Pirahnna
or comprop? Was there a performance drop, or gain? Tell me what you think. never and I mean NEVER ,eat yellow snow.

Re: anyone use composite props?

I bought a comprop, and was amazed at the performance. It performed better than any aluminum prop I had ever had on it. better outta the hole because it is really light, and 4 blades, holds on plane better at slow speeds, and corners really well while trimmed up. Down sides, if you hit somthing, you had better have another prop. Stainless Steel is prettier. As a spare prop only in case of trouble, I can't think of a better idea. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I purchased a 4 blade comp prop and it is my spare that I carry. I noticed a slight drop in performance however it is my spare. My normal prop is a cupped 3 blade aluminum 17" pitch and yes the 4 blade comp prop is slower. But the benefit is that it is light and easy to store on my boat.

I have also heard that if you hit anything with them they are just made to break. This would save on a major lower unit repair. If you are looking for performance and the same ride/speed them get an aluminum or spend the bucks $$$$ on a stainless steel. Check e-bay I have seen allot of props on there.

Bob ;)

Re: anyone use composite props?

I ran a 4-blade comp prop on my last OB, 20hp Johnson, my uncle runs the same on his 35hp Johnson. Mine had too much torque for rough salt water, but in brown water rivers and shallow reservoirs they are great. On my uncles boat we have broken 2 props hitting stumps or other submerged objects on the Mississippi, and I have chewed one up on a gravel bar in the Yakima River. In all three cases there was no dammage to the lower unit as the prop took the impact energy. It also helped that the motor was not locked down in any of the cases.
