Just been asked to identify this motor

There are no tags or serial plates on it anywhere. Looks ready for the scrap heap but I guess nothing is dead until its buried.

I reckon its an evinrude 10hp, maybe the sport twin from about 1966 - seems to have had a big old revamp on the hood though. Maybe its a Johnson seahorse 10hp from about 1972.

Anyone know any better ???

Pics attached had to resize them to get them on so hope they come out ok.

Thanks

I have one that is similar if not the same as that one. If i remember right, themodel number was on the transom mount as well. Mine is a 1966 20hp johnson and still runs great.

Could be an 18. An 18, 20 or 25, late 60's, early 70's.

The 18hp Johnsons ended in 1965 and the paint scheme would have been white. The 20hp began in 1966 and would have been white also, I believe. That paint color suggests a 20hp of about 1968, 1969 or 1970. Look for model numbers as follows:

1968 FD-22
1969 20R69
1970 20R70

The hood on your motor is homemade, so I would put no faith in it at all for identification purposes.

Thanks, then mine is a 1968, not a 1966. I think I remember the FD-22 model number but don't have the motor with me to look.

Re: Anyone know what motor this is - picture attached

looks to me like the OP has photos of two different motors.

or at least two different time frames of its life

look at the shift knob....it is all marked an nicked up in one photo when it is hooked up for remote control

in the other picture with the hood on, it has no nicks and marks..

was it painted with black spray paint after it came off the boat?

that sounds like a serial number...sometimes there are two "plates" one with the serial number and the other with the model number..

ask if they can find another silver"plate"

I always thought they were freeze out plugs, or 'welch plugs"

Re: Anyone know what motor this is - picture attached

Sorry no other plates on the motor anywhere

Thats all we have to go on so if anyone knows it age we can stick with a 20hp from that year which sounds close enough to me

I think I found my model number on the transom mount. Look on the port side in the area of the red circle.

I have a Johnson 20 1968 fd 22m and it doesn't have electric start, one of your pics show it. I don't see any 20 hp Johnsons from 68 to 70 that have an electric start.
