A friend and I are planning on taking a week long trip the second of July. We are located in South Dakota and are looking at going a place within 12 hours of South Dakota. Does anyone know of a good place there would be to catch a lot of fish?

Looking to catch walleye, but am open to whatever bites. Thanks for any advice.

Why go outside of S. Dakota if you're looking for walleyes? By looking at google map alone, lake Oahe and lake Sharpe look like you can spend all summer chasing walleyes there. Also, Devils lake in N. Dakota.

I have a friend that comes from SoDak to Algoma (where I live) quite often to fish trout/salmon. Plenty from MN come to our town too. Green Bay is hard to beat for Walleye and smallmouth in summer, and it's only 1/2 hour from Algoma.

I'm up on Leech Lake in MN, very large lake (112,000 acres) with over 600 miles of shoreline, it is a great multi-species lake , you get eyes, northerns, bass, musky. But do to its size it can be a bit overwhelming. I would recommend staying on one of the bays on the west side of the lake.

Woman lake in Cass county Mn, is also a fun eye fishery with other speicies as well and considerabley smaller at 5,000 acres, so not as overwhelming.

There are literally thousands and thousands of lakes just next door to SD in MN...come on over! :D

It might be a little further than 12 hours, but Lake Powell is one of the best lakes in the west. Only lake I have found where you can catch stripers, large mouth, small mouth, walleye, and crappie all in the same day. Plus the scenary is beyond amazing. The lake is almost 200 miles long and has close to 1,800 miles of shore line. It would be worth your time to at least look into it. Here is a good sight to get info on fishing Lake Powell.

Heres a picture of a very small portion of the lake.

Im from Wis. but fished Leech Lake Minn at least 6 times. I stayed at different resorts each time because the lake is so HUGE & I wanted to try different areas of the lake. We had a blast every time & a lot of good fishing. I would definitely recommend Leech Lake Minn.

We are on Steamboat Bay, which is shallow with a huge reed line, good for Northerns, Bass and Jumbo Perch. I understand Muskys are there too, but haven't had the pleasure of meeting one yet. :D

95Wellcraft, that is just a beautiful place/lake.
