Any advice will be appriciated. I have a '78 Searay with the 470. I am trying to upgrade to the alternator and the pertronix kits at the same time. some how i burned up the pickup module of the pertronix kit. From what i understand from the alt. kit, I am supposed to disc. "all?" the wires from the original volt. regulator and cap them off? Does anyone know if i can get a new module or am i going to have to buy another pertronix kit complete. I am going to reinstall the points and condenser but i haven't messed with those. in about 20 yrs. any advice on setting points and dwell would help. thanks

Re: alt. upgrade.

Jeremy, They're going to need the S.N. off of your 470. I have an '84, but I think the earlier 470's had different specs. Try this link (always)

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288430

and using you serial number you should be able to download the proper Merc. manual (it's #3 or #8 I believe) with everything you need.

At that link, you might also want to download the Service Bulletins too.

Don't know about the Pertronix Module availability, but I converted mine and it's been great.

Good Luck.

That's where mine are, also known as the rotor or harmonic balancer.
