Does anyone have any pictures or diagrams for where the drain plug is located. I can find the vent hole, but not the drain. (now you know how dangerous I am  )
I'm going to have to get a shop manual for this thing, the owner's manuals are absolutely no help.

It should be near the forward, or leading edge, of the 'bullet' that the prop shaft is in. I made a poor diagram, but here it is. Make sure you drain it when it's cold, and that when you fill it you fill it from top to bottom. Look for metal shavings on the magnet or in the old oil itself. That could be indicative of drive problems.

When you fill the drive, fill it from the bottom up. Force all the air out the top vent plug until oil appears. Install the vent plug and quikly remove the oil line and insert the drain plug. Double check gear lube leval in the spring before launching. Top off though vent hole if required.

3D - Get the manual, it's well worth it if you're going to do this type of maintenance. And also get the pump kit that screws into the out-drive fill hole and attaches to the lubricant container (about $9.00), fill from the bottom as Master Tech suggests. Buy the lube by the quart, attach the pump kit and fill'er up....good luck.

Hey MR. Bill where do you get that screw pump that connects to the drain hole? I need one. Do you have a product number or a manufacture?

Thanks, Dan

Re: Alpha One drive - Changing oil

Thanks !!!
My plan is to have the shop do all the maintenance and checking over this year and then do most of the routine stuff myself next year after I have studied the manual a bit. Initially I want someone qualified to look at all the seals, etc. to look for any upcoming problems, etc. JUst want to try to avoid spending the big bucks for engine or drive before normal. The engine only has 60 hrs. on it (1997 model 4.3L Merc) but I'd expect some stuff could be suspect just because of age. Dont want something little to turn into something BIG.
THANKS AGAIN.
