got the drive in a stand, seperated the unit to do the pump and i wanted to do the u-joints as they are rusted. pulled the u-joints then pulled the upper drive shaft out of the housing and found that it was sheered right above the gear. thats no problem it didn't cause any other damage and is easy to replace. my question is under the gear on the upper drive shaft are those bearings, and those bearing ride on a race that is in the drive. that race i can spin if i get a good enough grab on it with a rag. I found this when i was cleaning the rag. Is it normail for those to be able to spin a little. and if i have to change it will i have to do shimming?
