Alpha 1 Ujoint Bellows Direction?

I can't believe I'm asking this, but here goes:

I'm ready to install the new ujoint bellows on my 1987 Alpha 1. I see the identification markings indicating that the end of the bellows with the small flat area goes forward and the completely round section attaches to the bell housing. Good.

However both ends also say "TOP" - but the "Top" labels are about 3 inches off and don't line up. This is obviously a misprint as one label would be at the 12 oclock while the other end would be about 3 oclock. So now I'm second guessing myself, is the flat section of the top?

Thanks.

Just installed u-joint bellows on my Alpha 1. Others with more experience may explain it better. On mine the words "Top" do not line up. The hose clip fittings need to be at the 3 o'clock location so you can tighten them up. This should place the words "Top" at around the 10:30 and 1:30 position.

I would post in "mercruiser" for best answer.I know that the flat side is there for a reason and I believe it is where the pickup hose would rub on it but DO NOT take my word for it.I also thought I remember that it may be the bottom on some models.Charlie

The flats on the front end of the bellows should be installed so they are on the sides, vertically oriented.
