...Hi all. I'm hoping someone can tell me if Sierra marines engine alignment tool, part # 18-4442 will work for my 1991 Volvo-Penta 3.0GS w SX drive.
The ad states "Used to verify engine alignment on all MC-1, RM-R, Alpha One and Alpha One/Gen. two." Also stated on the same ad is a Mercury part # 91-805475a1. Basically I need to know if this tool works for a Volvo SX drive before I order.

Thx. for looking guys,
Mikey. :p

Re: Alignment tool question??

Do you know someone with a good lathe?

Just go to a metal sales place and buy yourself a piece of 1.375 steel rod and have them make you one.

I made mine and it works just fine.

Just use the dimensions found HERE

Rick, that drawing gives the length of the reduced end as 2.200, but the (a) dimension of 1.150 is actually the diameter of the next length of 2.750,
What is the diameter of the thinner section left of X?

And the rest is 1.375 dia, how long?

The small diameter is 1.010", I'm surprised it's not there!

I have another copy of that service bulletin and it shows the smaller spec. I don't know why this one omitted it.

I made mine about 2.5' long but it really doesn't matter. It just needs to be long enough so you can move the gimbal bearing around easily, so don't make it too short.

I bought one online and when I got it, it was bent!!! it had about 0.008" runout!! It probably would have been ok but not for a geek perfectionist like me!!
