Adding radiator stop leak to Mercruiser heat exchanger?

I have a small leak that I suspect is a hose fitting some where but to be cautious, I had planned on adding a can or radiator stop leak into my heat exchanger. I have total closed cooling with antifreeze/fresh (mix) water circulating through Chevy V8 block and exhaust manifolds. Salt water goes through heat exchanger and risers only.

System is pressurized. I didn't see any problem with adding radiator stop leak. Leakage may not be leakage at all but normal evaporation.

Opinions are welcome.

Thx!

I would advise you to fix the leak like Bt Doctor suggests. Stop leak could make matters worse by blocking coolant flow and causing overheating.

^^ agree^^ No stop leak. If you suspect a leak fix it right. If the leak re-appears it could damage the motor itself making it a full replacement.

Stop leak won't hurt anything contrary to what many will say however it will more than likely not fix the issue. If anything at best it may stop it temporarily and it may reappear at the worst time possible.Find it and try to fix it.Pretty impressive some of the repairs that can be done with marine tex or JB weld when done correctly.Charlie

coolant was leaking around stat housings. and HXs needed new zincs. I don't know why former owner didn't replace stat housing gasket when he put motors in 2 years ago. Hopefully, new gaskets solved the leakage. Lots of green crystals ooooozing around stat housing.

A fully closed system. There will be no evaporation. I had a closed cooled V6 for 12 years. The only time I had to fill it was after I drained it for the bi-annual service. Other than that, no loss.

You ever see the inside of cooling passages or a radiator after someone added stop-leak? Your cooling capacity is SEVERELY reduced by the non-thermally conductive gunk that now coats everything. Stop leak is what you add right before you trade a junker vehicle off to a dealer.
