Four year old battery abruptly lost voltage. Running fine and went from normal voltage to would not turn warm engine over. Removed and was tested at parts store and was told it was DOA, dead cell I presume. Purchased new marine battery, installed, boat started instantly but voltage meter indicated only 11.5+ charging level. My manuals warn that running this engine with battery disconnected can damage alternator. Did the instant death of the battery take out the alternator? I am looking for confirmation before I open my ck book at the local marina!
Thanks!
