Despite a fairly ordinary wx forecast, the sun came out and so did the boats. Great fun to celebrate Australia Day this way... we had a blast!
Ferryrace_start.jpg
This is the start of the annual Ferrython, a race up the harbour starting from near the Opera House, almost out to the heads and then back passed the Opera House and under the "Coathanger" (Sydney Harbour Bridge) to the finish.

This is the finish (above).
The port authority's fireboat (below) couldn't help himself. Talk about great pee-hole pressure!

We weren't the only ones who enjoyed our day. This is a group of folks dressed up like our famous 19th century outlaw, Ned Kelly and his gang.
38 deg yesterday, stayed home. Got up early and mowed the lawns and did a bit of wippersnippering then a bunch of freeloaders showed up and used my pool all day - gave the bbq a workout also. All in all a very pleasant & social day but I think I would've prefered to be on the harbour ;)

Is it just me or has one of the 'Ned Kellys' missing his undergarments?

Aldo

Whoa... you're right! Waving a pistol with a Ned Kelly mask and no daks is a great way to get attention almost anywhere except Sydney!

We went on to a BBQ at a friend's harbourside place in Hunters Hill... he's got a LITTLE bit more money than me... boo-hoo! Here's the view from his back lawn... no prizes for guessing which one's mine.
Doesn't worry us. We've got export class criminals to spare down here. Some of them aren't even in the police force.

Being more refined and less sociable than you lot up there, I just got half-pis*ed while chasing boat instruments on the internet.

The aptly named Mr Damage in the first photo looks like a bloke who wants to get bogged in someone else's wake.

Yes, some of the less than spectacular recoveries from being swamped, broaching etc could have been avoided if the boaties concerned had used some of their spectacular skill to avoid the situation in the first place. Mr Damage got slowed down by two sheilas in a NSW Maritime boat for infringing the 6 knot/no wash limit... even though he was one of the less guilty. Some of the big charter guys just muscled through the smallest gaps... but hey, we all had a good time and no damage was done to anyone except the to the NSW Maritime boat whose all-female crew were so forthright in enforcing the rules that they didn't look where they were going. They managed to hook up on an exclusion zone buoy's mooring rope with one of their very pretty stainless props. One Honda 90 up... one down... one sheila looking very concerning and yanking on the wrapped up line like a good un, all the while stalled in the middle of the spectator boat lane with 300+ boats powering towards them.
