Hello, want to share my experience of pulling gimbal bearing seal out on Alpha Gen2 drive. There is no special pullers available on the market, nothing on eBay or local shops. Even information how pull seal out is hard to find. So, I made my own tool and job to replace seal was done in few minutes.

Main part is a Long Reach Bearing Puller from Princessauto.com, SKU: 8311557 for $20.03CAD

Puller was modified. The jaws turned 180? to face out. Using grinder I cut slots to fit seal on one side and gear clamp on another side. I hope pictures will give self explanation.

If there is a problem to download pictures, they are here as well:

The reason you didn't find info is because there is no need to replace it. The only purpose is to keep grease from going to the engine side when greasing the bearing. It is not really a seal.

Thanks boldive for sharing your experience covering the gimbal bearing seal.

Sometimes depending on how you position the jaws of the puller behind the seal and bearing, it enables you to be able to pull out the seal at the same time as the bearing.

Also with the newer permalube gimbal bearings available, the seal isn't really "necessary" any longer according to Mercruiser so it's your choice to leave it (the old one) in there or not... or go with a new one if still desired.:)

Thanks for the replies. Let's add to the post subject: "... in case if you have to", which is my situation.
