A/C Water Pump Runs For a While Then Stops

My marine A/C water pump runs and pumps water fine for a few minutes. Then cuts outs. After it cools down it will turn back on but same things happens. Seen very hot to touch too. Its made made by Teel for am Mermaid AC systems. Its 10 years old with a lot of use.

Any thoughts on this issue?

A couple of options. There may be an obstruction inside the pump housing. Depending on the water you boat on, mildew and growth can occur inside the pump, especially if not used for a few months. I run dishsoap thru mine once a month to stop it. You may be able to disassemble and clean it.

Another option would be to just replace it. If thw bearings are shot inside or the electrical components have gone south, the resistance is causing it to heat up and either trip a circuit or eventually heats to the point it's inoperable.

If it can't be disassembled and repaired, it might just be quicker and easier to replace it. Mine was about $80 and it supplys two separate A/C units.

Just my opinion, but those pumps are crap.

Replace it with a March magnetic drive pump. Yeah, they cost more but are MUCH better pumps.
My A/C flows 10X better than it did with a Teel or Cal pump and has never once lost its prime.

Yes that's it. Its ran great for nearly 10 years. No complaints till now.

Its seems to get hot them then quit. Water flow is fine. Were did you get a pump for $80 ?? Other than the Teel Pumps that is $99 the rest I have seen are $200 plus.

Online somewhere. Sorry, I don't keep records of stuff like that. It was about 2 years ago. If that one worked well for you for 10 years, how can you complain about that and the $100 price tag? Get a new one. No retrofitting, it will bolt right in.
