I am blowing my 15A ign fuse intermittantly on my 1995 4.3 LX in my Bayliner 2252 cuddy. It will usually happen while cruising. It happened once while cranking. It never happens (acts up) when I replace the fuse so I can't "catch it in the act". I have followed the purple wire to the gauges (since it feed them), coil, alternator, etc. I see no easy shorts to ground. Is there a condition with ign modules, alternator diodes, fuel pumps, or anything else this purple ign feed wire supplies current to. Is this a common problem? I hope so becuase being so intermittant, it will be hard to track down! [/LIST]

Sorry to hear of your problem. Check and CLEAN all grounds!! They seem to cause most of the problem. ALso another thing to try is to buy a "Slow Blow" type fuse. Sometimes this cures the problem.

Re: 95 Mercruiser 4.3LX blows ign fuse intermittantly

Thanks for answering. I can see a bad ground causing a component to not work, but I can't see that blowing a fuse. I follewed every inch of the ign wire (purple). Nothing is shorted. It has to be a component like the alternator, ign module, gauge circuits in dash, or fuel pump. I guess I'll have to split up the circuit using individual 10A fuses to each component and see which one blows when it decides to act up. Other than guessing, or a know problem (which I was hoping for), that is all I can do. This is what we do all the time on cars when a fuse that powers several components blows intermittantly. I'm open for suggestions if anyone else has a hunch.
