Hi all.
I have got a lot of information from this site so I thought I should give some back.
Having just changed the impellers in my outboards I thought I'd let you see how I got on. This was the first time I have tried this and hope it encourages others to have a go at DIY.

www.geocities.com/scubagate/impeller.html

Good Job and good pics/info!! ;) Did you not have to disconnect the shift shaft before dropping the lower unit?

No the unit just drops out with this model of engine, which made it real easy. Am sure with other engines there maybe more to it.

Man I wish I would have seen your post before I changed mine! I just changed my impeller on my '72 Merc 1150 today. This was my first. The only problem I had was getting the lower unit back on. I tried, and tried, no go. I was doing it myself, then finally had to call my brother to come help. Eventually we had to turn the flywheel while fitting the drive shaft in. I'm going to run it tomorrow on the muffs and hope all is well!
Here are some pics I took as soon as I dropped the lower unit. There was a lot of sand, and even dead bumblebees in the exhaust.
