92 Johnson 150 faststrike

I have a 92 Johnson FastStrike 150. I do not appear to be getting spark. Can someone tell me where to start looking

Before you can get any specific answers we need to know for sure if you're getting spark or not. We'll assume the problem is the motor won't start, the question then becomes - do you have spark or not? Several directions to go, we need to know which one to pick.

Start by checking to be sure that the emergency kill switch is fully closed. (Actually open, but fully)

Then try disconnecting the black and yellow kill wires at the power packs. There should be bullet connectors. Be aware that if the engine starts with the black and yellow wires disconnected, you will have to stop the engine by flooding it with the primer solenoid.

Then test for spark with all of the spark plugs out.

Correct it is not starting and there is no spark

I disconnected the Black and Yellow wires as you suggested. I also checked with all the spark plugs out. Still no spark.

By the way my kill switch has 3 wires molded into the back. How can I check to see if it is open?

No spark can be one of four things...you already eliminated the kill circuit, so you now need to test the stator (ohm meter and a CD77 meter) and electronc eye (you will need the OMC analyzer for this). If the stator and eye check out, then it's time fr a new power pack.

I just wanted to make sure that I had done everything right before moving on. On the second time around I found that a kill switch wire was shorted to ground. It has plenty of spark now. You we exactly correct. Now I cant seem to get the engine to start. I put about 3 gallons of gas in the tank. Do you think this is enough to start the motor? It has been sitting for about 18 months

You have spark so that is taken care of. If you have fresh fuel, you need to pull it into the firing chambers and cranking should do that. The only problem is that you need a lot more gas when the engine is cold, especially if it has been sitting awhile.

So try this: Pump the bulb to get fuel into the carburetor bowls, then push the key in to activate the primer solenoid and keep holding it in while cranking until the engine fires.

Make sure that the red pointer on the primer solenoid is parallel to the solenoid's cylindrical base.

After sitting for 18 months, I think you should at least give carbs a good cleaning. You might check the FAQ section of the forums....great info there.
