New to boats, but I used to rebuild M48A3 tank engines. I just got a 90hp Mariner OB229356, pushes 110 psi all three clys. My tech put a new lower case seal kit and water pump in, cleaned carb float bowls, new 800 cca battery. Said it runs "bitchen". Enough money for a while.
Does this have a generator? A low or stoppage of oil VRO warning horn? Overheating horn? Where might I find a operator's and maint manual for THIS motor, not 600 other motors? It is on a 1984 Marlin open bow deep "V" fiber glass. How many knots might I hope for? Should it be run fast, slow, or in between in fresh water? How slow can these things go?
How do I work the controls at the Captain's Chair. It looks like the fore and aft lever some how controls both throttle and forward, neutral, and reverse gears.

Well you are in the right place ;) There are probably more 90hp Mariner's still running strong then there are M48's........ and you could not hang a M48 from a transom :D

You can probably hope for and see about 33-38 mph with that set up. Since we are talking about a 2 stroke......they like being run and like seeing wide open throttle (5000-5500 rpms). Don't lug the motor.

:joyous:Right you are , El Supremo. I launched yesterday and a clean runner it is when breathing wide open. We got 35 mph windward and 36 to the lee. throttled down a quarter it hummed contentedly. I like this motor, the quietest two stroke I could imagine. To test the VRO I first loaded fuel from a premixed tank using non ethanol premium and fifty to one XD50. after a 1.5 gal run I examined the Mariner oil tank to verify that it had in fact lowered the level. It did. I next ran straight unleaded premium thru the carbs and once again checked the oil level on the eng. It had used a comparable amount. Fuel consumption I have not yet tested, but I have seen my money's worth so far.
