HI guy's
I have a question about a 90hp johnson fuel system. There is a small round black control with a red toggle on top.One other motor is a 70hp,both are vro by the way.also has this control but is disconnected.both motors are around 1986.the 70 after ditching the oilpump and switching to mixed fuel runs fine. The 90 however after extensive reworking will not stay running.Basically rebuilt, carb kit gaskets the works.By turning this little toggle the 90 starts to work but not 100%.Any extra tricks I'm open!

The toggle is a manual by-pass for the cold start injector. Trouble shoot the basics, spark and compression and you will like find the cause of the problem

Thanks,
the manual bypass should be used in which manner?,only when the engine is first started or should it remain in a permenant position. And why was it so easy to remove it completely from the 70 hp but the 90hp will not run without it?ie;what will result in complete removal of the unit?

The solenoid is simply a bypass for the pressure side of the fuel system. It takes fuel from between pump and carburetor and when you push the key in it sprays fuel directly in to the engine, passing the carburetor. In manual mode you prime the bulb till hard, then move the lever 90 degrees pump bulb once (or twice if need be ). Move the lever back and crank over the motor.
