last weekend I saw some guys wiht a 9.9 on a flat back 14 foot conoe. seemed a bit nuts to me.

its not the most stable of boats to be driving on a big lake on a really windy day. wind was off shore so it wasnt too bad as long as you stayed within a hundred meters of shore. 5+ footers on the other side of the lake.

ice had only been broken for 8 days on that lake so teh water damn cold. couldnt help but to keep looking to see if they had tipped over yet

---
I got cought in some of the big stuff when the the wind shifted the same day. had a hard time in my 12 foot alumnum, I couldnt emagine being in a canoe.

Re: 9.9hp on a canoe

Reminds me of my stupid human trick of last year.

Last year I bought a 15 hp evinrude from an acquaintance... It hadn't been run for quite a while so I spent most of a weekend wrenchin' on it at the cottage. When I was ready to try and start it, I tossed it onto an old 12' cartopper we have kickin' around (a really shallow/narrow/flimsy one). Basically like if you cut a 16' canoe off at the 12' mark. I thought at least I'd get the leg in water and see how it idled... but, once it seemed to idle good, I couldn't resist going for a cruise (the bay was like glass). Turned out to be a hoot. I guarantee that boat has never, or will ever go that fast again! Then I noticed that the whole rear section of the bottom was flexing inward (probably started at about the 30 mph mark), I decided maybe I was having a bit too much fun. Fun, scary and a bit stupid all rolled into one. Felt faster than 60 mph in my other boat (17' with 150 hp). Good that I kept it short, probably would've over-rev'd the engine to death if I did that for long.

The 15's still running strong, but now I've got a 16' aluminum for it...

Brent
