fishin4food, are you referring to the 2-stroke motors? I know that Boatman30 is correct about 1974 being the first year, but I'm not sure about current production. The 9.9 and 15 hp Evinrudes and Johnsons for the 2000 and 2001 model years are listed as "Portable 4-Strokes". That might not be a full product listing on the website, though.

This is not correct - my dad has a low profile 1968 9.9 evinrude.<br /><br />I have a co worker where I work who claims his is a 65 9.9

jim d: The '64 through '73 models were 9.5 hp motors. Your dad and co-worker have the model that preceded the 9.9. The earlier 9.5 does have a lower profile than the newer 9.9; also, all of the 9.9 hp OMC outboards used a through-hub exhaust. That began with the '74 model year.
