i have a four winns with a 88 Omc I.O. and have been running since May launch - everything ok.. now yesterday, noticed a couple times, while running across the water, if i were half throttle and went to WOT the engine would seem to cut out or miss slightly, and as soon as i lower the rpm it would run smooth again. At idle it was fine? what would this be? This past winter i had a complete tune up (plugs cap rotor, points (timing dwell set) ??? Fuel or electrical?? THANKS

How is your alternator? Mine went bad this past week, and so did top end.after replacing my alternator all is well.So Its worth a look at your voltage, make sure that your reading at least 13 volts while under way.
I realy thought I had two problems because she would fire right up and all electronics worked fine, inclouding tilt-trim.
Just a thaught and some thing to check out

Another area to check...
If the bog is only on acceleration and you can ease it up to wot, then i would look at your accelerator pump on the carb.

If the problem is only at wot not acceleration, you might have either a fuel restriction somewhere or the fuel pump is starting to fade...

Alternator??? when idling it is below 12v.. bounces,, but when under power even no wake speed it goes up to 12 -13 .. could this be checked with a meter?

A fuel problem was what i thought first , but am open to any comments..
T
THanks.

I would get the meter to check the voltage. When idleing you should have 13-14 volts. Underway if you only have 12-13 volts you are still not really charging.

A charged battery just sitting there should read 12.6 volts. It sounds like you have an electrical problem. Alternator or meter.

If may or may not be the source of your engine problem, but it needs to be resolved before you are stuck in the middle of the lake.

My 1984 3.8L OMC did this. It was water in the gas. Take off the fuel filter and empty it into a bucket. Look at it and see if there is a "gelly" under the surface. If that thats water with gas sitting on top. I empty the water from the fuel filter and it pretty much stopped but now I need my carbs cleaned because the water gets up into them from the fuel.

Maybe this is all your problem is.
