85 85 hp force backfires when trying to start

motor ran fine last year when attempting to start this year wouldnt start without help of starting fluid then let it sit for a minute or two wouldnt start again without help of fluid. so i took the boat to the lake to run it it would start at all even with start fluid. just backfires when attempting to start<br /><br />any help would be a plus thanks

First, stop using that stuff. It doesn't have any lube in it. I've learned from this board that WD40 works great as a "starting fluid" on 2cycles. I used to use a clean spray bottle with 2cycle mix in it,but it was sorta dangerous,because it leaked at the seal.<br />About your backfire problem, pull the plugs.<br />I think you'll find the problem there.<br />I hope anyway
