Is it normal for the copper pipe in the center to look like this

If I went to all the trouble to look at the impeller and I had a new one already I would certainly not use the old one. The impeller in the picture looks in pretty good shape but remember impellers need to be changed when they are still operational. If you wait until they fail you will probably find that out when your engine blows.

As for the copper tube. It looks a little jagged to me like someone cut it or something. Mine is fairly smooth. My only concern with jagged would be if it binded on the grommet when I push the lower unit up into the mid-section. That would be a problem with water flow. Also, water flow can get hampered with the upper grommet, which might be defective. That unfortunately requires a powerhead removal to look at. You also might have a defective thermostat.

When you say you have no water peeing, was the lower unit submerged past the water pump all the way in the water. These pumps are not self priming. Also, on that model water only really flows well when the thermostat starts to open which usually takes a couple of minutes. Until then you need to put your hand under the little hole, in the back, and at best you will feel a light mist of water on your hand. That is normal for that model of motor.

Thanks for your reply OptsyEagle. She was submerged. Cold start ran for minutes never warmed up. I'll swap the impeller with the rest of the kit and update.

That motor should have water coming out of the exhaust reliefs in about 30 seconds not minutes. If it didnt warm up you may have a bad thermostat time to check that to.

I changed the impeller assembly. Ran it for 5 minutes. Water mists out of the exhaust out but there is no stream of water. The power head is barely warm. What do you think

Yes and if the head is not hot you need to look at the thermostat I would replace the impeller and emory cloth the sharp edges off the tube.

The assumption is that thermostat is stuck in the open position. However you feel the impeller is fixed correct ?

If the head is cold there is obviosly water going through it. Check the thermostat and go from there.

Is it safe to run. I'm currently typing on water. Been running almost full throttle for and hour. She's spraying a lot more from the exhaust hole.

Little late to ask that. Check the head temps
