Breaking in a new 2001 Nissan 70HP Mod# NS-70-CEPTO. First 4 hours of break-in are completed.
Yesterday entailed the first attempt at 4000rpm's & it would do it. The most it would deliver was
about 3100 rpm's. Still running the oil at 25:1 & the plugs were cruddy so I did change them, but
I haven't been back to the river yet so.........The stock propeller is 13.5" x 14.6 pitch. I doubt this
would pose a problem for a 17' Searay. The motor will spin up to 5100 rpm's in neutrel, but not in
gear.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve

Howdy, F&J.

I don't remember in the last year + any problem being reported here with a Tohatsu/Nissan, so this must be a first.

I think that your engine will run fine with the new plugs. It is not at all unusual for new 2 strokes to foul plugs when running on double oil during break-in.

If not, you may be down a cylinder. Come back and we'll see what we can do.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the reply JB. It's a cool misty day here so the next "sea trials" may be on hold for a few days. Given the Tohatsu/Nissan reputation, I suppose you're right.

Thanks again
Steve

WOW! What a new set of clean plugs can do. The old SeaRay got up on plane @ 3700 rpm's & it was all I could do to keep that Nissan from spinning up like a 70HP food processor. At then end of the day, the river was settling down a bit so we went for 4800 RPM's. I never once cracked it wide open though. I've got to bring my Ganim GPS Handheld next time out & find out how fast I'm really going.
Still & all, for now Long Island Sound will wait for us to all get to know one another a little better. What a great day to be on the water around here. :D
