Hello,
As title suggests looking for a replacement starter for my 454.
I only want to do this once so looking for a marine starter that's either Mercruiser oem or better.
The marina can order one but it will take 10days. Any options considered and thanks in advance.

A PMGR starter

Sould be in-stock at one of the Mercruiser warehouses as the starter is same for 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, 6.2, 7.4, 8.1, 8.2

Some people use DB Electric.

That part is for a inboard and is not PMGR

Finding a inboard starter that is PMGR is a bit more difficult

I ended up going with a DB electric. Why? Mainly availability and many good reports locally here in Chattanooga. Plus the OEM Mercrusier was not in stock in Atlanta. I contacted mercruiserparts "BAM" in Pompano Beach FL. They stocked one but couldn't tell me if PMGR or not.
Crusier is twin Gen 2 vortec 454's inboard V Drives.

Anyone have experience with DB Electric starters?

they are fine
Agreed. Just completed the port engine replacement with a DB Electric unit and very pleased with the quality thus far. Plus at half the weight.
My Mark IV unit weighed in over 22lbs and the bendix to its sweet time to release. . The new unit DB Electric weight is 10ibs in the box. Also spins the engine over super fast and sounds more of an updated engine.
I ordered a second one for the Sbd side. Thanks all!
