65 merc turns over hard

1976 65hp merc rebuilt last year ran great seems very hard to turn over this year at first atempt to start so I quit trying. is this normal after sitting all winter, is there some kind of lubrication nessesary or am I looking at trouble, battery is new.

Give the battery a fresh charge.<br /><br />Perhaps it gummed up a bit but it's unlikely in just a few months. <br /><br />Pull the rope if equiped. Does it feel ok? Thump,Thump,Thump,Thump, sound as you pull it through the compression strokes?<br /><br />Clean the battery connections. Try a voltmeter attached + to the main starter electrical connection and the - attached to engine ground. While cranking it should be around 9-10 volts. If less than that the battery or other components or connections would be suspect.

thanks motor turns easaly by hand dont have a volt meter but will charge battery and cheack all conections

Hi myfin<br />You might want to lube your starter motor bearings also your start gear and shaft. Like Yepblaze said clean all elect. connections.
