65 Evinrude 60hp Questions

I just inhereted this boat.My grandma says the clutch went bad in it.I dont think there is a clutch.Is this a common motor to eat up lower units.Should I fix this motor is it worth it?What should I do to verify there is a problem with the lower unit?Unfourtunatly the only person who knows what went wrong with it is my grandpa and he is no longer with us.Where shoud I start for ordering parts? Thanks Brian

Howdy, Judah. Maybe the clutch DID go bad. It's a dog clutch, but still a clutch.<br /><br />I guess the first thing to do is remove the plugs and see if you can cycle the engine by hand. If that works okay, try shifting it into Forward, Neutral and Reverse and see if the prop does the right thing when you cycle the engine.<br /><br />If it passes that test go buy a shop manual. If it doesn't, decide if you are skilled and willing enough to fix it with a manual. . . or not. If not, sell it for parts. If yes, get the shop manual.<br /><br />Once you have the manual, come back here and we will help you get her running.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . . <br />JB :)
