Hi

Wanted to replace the leaking low pressure power
steering hoses and the one that goes from the cooler
to the steering gear has a fitting on it.

Any idea how I can get around this without buying
the genuine Volvo hose?

Is there a way to use a barbed fitting?

Thanks . . . Brian

Re: 430B Low Pressure P/S Hose

It looks like a pressure hose but that fitting is just for threading into the pump.Low pressure there.
Is the other end attached with a hose clamp?
Where is it leaking? The fitting or the hose or the connection where the fitting and hose meet.
If it's the fitting that goes in the pump, then you need to replace the line and maybe the pump if the threads are screwed up.
If it the connection on the hose then you can cut it off and replace it with another piece of hose.

Hi

Yes, the other end is attached with a hose clamp
to the oil cooler.

This part attaches to the steering rack (if that's what
it's called on a boat?) and it is the return to the pump
and is definitely the low pressure side.

I think for today I'm going to cut the fitting off the hose,
maybe about 6" and splice a new piece of hose on. Not
the right thing to do, but until I can get a hose, this will
work and get me out on the water.

By the way, it was leaking at the hose clamp end and I
tried cutting some hose off and re-attaching, but it still
leaked. 18 year old hose just isn't flexible enough to
seal. I am going to replace all the hoses next spring
and thought I could get by this season . . . . but I
was wrong.

Thanks for the replies . . . . . Brian
