I have 13`4 boston whaler with the old cable steering. The motor is a 40 hp a yamaha. Would like to change over to safer steering system. Been looking on the net. Which teleflex system would be best and safe and for my boat and motor? Also, I need a tach to monitor my 1993 40hp erll yamaha. Does yamaha have a tach that would plug and play for my old engine. Appreciate any advice.

Re: 40 hp yamaha steering Question

on a motor that small you shouldn't need an anti-feedback steering unit.

if you are in salt water be sure to get one rated for salt water.

there is a accessory nut with a grease fitting, good investment.

the steering cable must be exactly the right length. measure very carefully. I would use an old garden hose to simulate the cable and then straighten and measure the hose.

lots of steering gear on e-bay http://motors.search.ebay.com/yamah...ZQQsargnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ2QQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZbs

Great idea using the garden hose. Should I allow lack when tilting the motor?
