35 hard starting ?

Howdy, My Dad just bought a used fishing boat with a 35 hp Evinrude Model #35952A Serial# E0001633. Is this a '79? Also we started it in a barrel and found it to be a little cold blooded. The previous owner said it has always been this way. What would you suggest to improve starting ? Thanks a bunch!

Hi, a good tune up for starters, plugs, carb kit, etc. you might have a compression check done to give you an idea on the inernal condition of the motor.<br />Autozone has a tool loan program. I just rented a compression tester last week, cost me $35.00 got my money back when I returned it.<br /><br />Mike
