30HP Johnson Gears Locked

Hi I have a 1987 johnson that has the lower unit all locked up the propeller wont turn and the drive shaft wont turn there is no metal in the gear oil anyone have any ideas what went wrong here thx

Is it off of the motor?

Will the shift shaft move up and down?

yes it is off the motor now I first though the power head had locked up the shift shaft does move up and down

Sounds like it's time to tear the lower unit apart and have a look at what came apart.

I was afraid someone would say that will it come apart even though its locked up

Should be able to get it apart. Maybe just pulling the bearing housing will show you what is wrong.
