I found a very clean Islander and also found that the floor was rotted in the rear corners. How hard is it to repair bad floor and what is recommended for the repair? The boat is a 89 and appears to be in great shape other than the floor. I could not really find any damage to the transom but is awfully hard to investigate with boat all together. Thanks for any info.

Re: 221 Starcraft Islander

Hi mich-fish. Take a look at the resto thread links here. All kinds of floors are replaced there. Floors on a 1-10 scale are maybe a 5, only because of the big chunks of wood. Use plywood - either marine ($$$$) or exterior (less $) but just as good after you protect it. BTW - marine needs protection too. A lot of guys are using Arauco from Lowes or Home de Pot. Its exterior glued and sanded. I just paid $29 and change at HD. It's 23/32", right between 5/8 and 3/4".

Toss up some pics so we can see what you have. Is it I/O or outboard? I guess I/O cause the O/Bs are kinda rare. Have fun with her.

Re: 221 Starcraft Islander

I am still in the market to buy a boat. This one was 9k and i would rank a 9 out of 10 on cleanliness and condition. I found that the floor was rotted in back corners. Pointed it out to owner and he seemed surprised but was not willing to move on price at this time. It appears that everything is original and appeared to be used frequently, just very well taken care of. I would believe that the floor would be 23 years old along with the rest f the boat. I dont want to post pics do to boat still for sale at this point.

I see the Islander you are talking about, she's nice!

But, I'd be bummed about a soft deck in a boat that's priced at $9K.

The deck itself isn't so bad of a job it's just all the stuff that goes along with it (seats, boxes, bulkheads, doghouse) that you sort of need to negotiate. Kind of a big undertaking for a boat at that price point.

You have options, here the 22's little sister at half the price...
