Recently changed an old worn out remote with this. The old remote required to press in on the key to activate choke/primer while the shift lever was slid to the left for neutral position and allowed the throttle to engage in warming the engine. This new remote has a cold start button that is pressed and then pops out on its own I guess after the engine gets warm. Black arrow points to position of the cold start button. The throttle cannot be used during any warm up period due largely to moving the lever at all takes it out of neutral and into gear. Can anyone shed light on the new controller? Is anyone else using one like this. Do you run the throttle forward and back before you begin? I believe I read in the literature that came with the controller that a splash of fuel happens when that button is pushed. Here for enlightenment thanks.

Generally, one would push the button in and hold it which disconnects the shifter mechanism. One can then advance the throttle in neutral.

I would expect your engine to have the Coldstart feature which causes it to run at high idle, when cold. If you have that, and it is working, you will not need the cold start button very often.

Pumping the throttle lever for cold starting does nothing.-----The black button on your picture does NOT give it a shot of fuel.-----I believe you push the black button in and then move the lever FORWARD.-----That disengages the shift function.-----Push key in and hold it in while cranking the motor over for cold starting.-----Picture of your old control?-----Talk to your local boat shop and learn how to use this control.
