2002 125HP Merc underpowered?

I have a 2002 125 HP Merc on a 2001 Hurricane deck boat and it seems underpowered. I have a 135 hp mariner on another boat that seems to push lots harder(same pitch SS prop).Is there anything I can do to increase performance or HP that doesn't cost a ton or ruin fuel usage?

First, check to make sure all cylinders are firing. I've heard of guys (on this forum!) who've spent hundreds re-propping, etc., only to find out that one of their cyl's wasn't firing.
