I have a 2001 YAMI HPDI and it was never used until this year. It has about 50 hrs on it. Half way through the season when the engine had been running for about 2-3 hrs it would bogg down and want to cut out when I put the throttle all the way down 5500 rpm. If I pull it back to 4800 rpm's it runs fine. I changed the water/fuel separater and it still happens. My dealer can't figure it out. It seems to only happen when the engine is hot.

Re: 2001 HPDI

hello
now I gotta ask you most of the same questions I asked PT.have you checked the fuel pressure from the medium pressure pump? have you done a fuel system vacum test?
The 02 sensor is not a part of the fuel curve above 1800 rpm or so. its a High tech system that still must suck, squeeze, bang and blow. I have a cust. with a pair of 01 200 HPDIs that had a momentary power loss sometimes. I found the insulating sleeve on the main power tap at the starter soliniod was pinched between the ring terminal and the post causing a momentary break in ignition power. remeber on these engines its back to the old style battery powered transistorized ignition. no battery or a dry battery and it does not work. moving the throttle from 4500 to 5500 only moves the throttle butterflys/TPS and allows more air and timing advance. more air needs more fuel.we did have some low pressure mechanical pump problems with those motors. test the diaphrams. check all the low tech stuff before bogging down on the high tech. I cannot tell you how many EFI/HPDI motors I havew cured just by cleaning the VST filter. I assume your dealer ran a lap top or at least a winky blinky test so you wont spend a lot of time testing good components. double check the low tech
good luck and keep posting
