I am having a problem with my 225 efi. it seems to misfire or backfire when I trim the motor up and apply slight power. it wont happen with the motor out of the water running with the muffs on. only under a load. also will run rough until i put the trim all the way down, then it seems to smooth out. one more problem, it seems to be all or nothing with the throttle.

Check out the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) parameters. Running an ohm meter across this sensor will tell you if it is failing. During movement of the shaft the ohm reading should be smooth. Approx. 4 ohms is the setting @ idle.

SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG TO GET BACK. THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED LAST YEAR. DID CHECK SENSOR. SEEMED TO RESPOND JUST FINE AND OHM READING WAS AROUND 4.8. BOAT IS PARKED FOR THE WINTER. WILL INSPECT FURTHER IN THE SPRING. THANKS FOR THE REPLY, ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT.

Re: 2000 MERC 225 EFI RUNNING POOR

Well its spring and I had my boat out last weekend and seems to load up real bad when first starting up. It will clear out when I put the trim all the way down and give it throttle. Could the tps be out of adjustment or could someone tell me how to adjust it?
