Recently purchased a 1988 9.9 johnson.Sticker on motor said to run 100:1, which the two previous owners did.I read on this site that Johnson and Evinrude later changed thier mind about this mixture said to run 50:1 which is what I thought should be run on this.My question is did this damage the engine in any way and how will this efffect engine performance.I am mixing 50:1 now and am going to take it for a test soon.

Running on the 100:1 mix was not a problem, Newyota. I know of no damage caused by it.

The problem that caused OMC to retreat to 50:1 occurred in long term storage. 100:1 didn't leave enough of a film of oil on internal parts like needle bearings. Some corrosion occurred.

Your engine should be just fine running (and stored) with 50:1 fuel mix. :)

As long as the PO's fogged the mtr when stored you should have no probs.
