I am looking into purchasing a 1999 ProGator with a 1998 Johnson 150 FICHT. The current owner says it has recently been rebuilt. Is it common for a 6-7 year old engine to need rebuilding or is there a problem with that year engine. I am new to the boating world so I am looking for a little advice.

'97 through '99 FICHT V6s needed rebuilding pretty quick. If they weren't completely updated to Bombardier specs I wouldn't touch one with a cane pole.

Why do the 150s blow up where the 90s and 115s seem far more reliable?
