Gents My boat runs rich and dies going neutral to forward or reverse, runs like it does not have 315hp. All eight cylinders have 175lb compression w 580hrs on engine. I had the boat scoped and a bad ignition module code was found. $550.00 later, new module, same day I got boat back I took it out same problem yet it does idle a bit better. I have gone thru 3 fuel pumps in 2 yrs. At idle I get 20lbs. Tank appears to be clean. Should I go after Market pump and regulator to get 50lbs? Any ideas? Thank you...

Welcome
Looks like ya have a motor problem and not a boat problem.
We might be able to help if we knew what motor you have.

Alldodge, Thank you for getting back. Yes I was not clear of what engine. 350 ci. The official black scorpion # OF874959. I did get info from mechanic. He said to check fuel cooler and thermostat housing from any water impeller fragments which might block water flow and create vapor lock. I did and all clear. I am waiting on a 160° thermostat kit to install.

Moving thread to the Merc section

Inboard

Should measure 43 psi fuel pressure at the rail.
Three pumps in 2 years, do they loose pressure or something else?
What lead to replacing the pump?

The first time pump flat out quit. I replaced it and boat never did run correctly. I checked rail w pressure guage was getting 22psi at idle and replaced. The 3rd is now getting 28 psi at idle. I have not test at wide open throttle yet. The boat on trailer was running extreamly fat. I took it in for repair. The shop scoped it and found the ignition module was bad and replaced it $560.00. Ouch! They didnt take boat out on water. The boat did idle a bit better when I took it out but as soon as I dropped it in gear it died. It also ran like crap...sputtering...dying between forward and reverse. The boat shop was no help. They basically said they dont know what I did to the boat after it left the shop. Thanks a lot Southern Idaho Marine. I wont be going back to them. Since then I did replace the MAP sensor and there is a difference when I run boat on trailer. The throttle is a bit more responsive and garage does not smell of fat exhaust. I have not taken it on the water yet. I am waiting for a thermostat kit to show. Thank you for getting back....

Spec for that motor is 43 psi and you should see right around 40 psi at idle
If you were getting more then that it could be the Regulator, but less then that could be wrong regulator was installed

If it was mine I would pull injectors and have them cleaned and flow tested. Would also send them to the place I use
